Read full description of the books:

Bierce is here the anti-Aesop and his fables take on politicians, businessmen, and religioius leaders especially (but also women's groups and authors). Many are darkly funny, some fall a bit flat, and some need historical translation.

The Honourable Member

A member of a Legislature, who had pledged himself to his Constituents not to steal, brought home at the end of session a large part of the dome of the Capitol. Thereupon the Constituents held an indignation meeting and passed a resolution of tar and feathers.

"You are most unjust," said the Member of the Legislature. "It is true I promised you I would not steal; but had I ever promised you that I would not lie?"

The Constituents said he was an honourable man and elected him to the United States Congress, unpledged and unfledged.

Read information about the author

Ebook Fabulas Fantasticas read Online! Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce (1842-1914) was an American editorialist, journalist, short story writer, fabulist and satirist. Today, he is best known for his short story, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and his satirical lexicon, The Devil's Dictionary.

The sardonic view of human nature that informed his work – along with his vehemence as a critic, with his motto "nothing matters" – earned him the nickname "Bitter Bierce."

Despite his reputation as a searing critic, however, Bierce was known to encourage younger writers, including poet George Sterling and fiction writer W. C. Morrow.

Bierce employed a distinctive style of writing, especially in his stories. This style often embraces an abrupt beginning, dark imagery, vague references to time, limited descriptions, the theme of war, and impossible events.

Bierce disappeared in December 1913. He is believed to have traveled to Mexico to gain a firsthand perspective on that country's ongoing revolution.

The only book I read in 1 day

The beginning is exciting, but at the end of the book is just a very template.

The butterflies in my stomach have died ...

Time flew unnoticed.
