Read full description of the books:
This was a fascinating book. Ana Luque believes that the reasons why so many Americans are suffering from obesity over other developed countries is because they do not have enough healthy probiotics in their gut. Most US cities chlorinate water to kill pathogens and doctors prescribe antibiotics for almost everything; consequently healthy probiotics are getting killed off. Without the proper flora in your GI, your immune system starts to shut down, which can cause obesity, chronic fatigue, slow metabolism, diabetes, high cholesterol, periodontal disease, diarrhea, constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, cardiovascular disease, skin disorders, bad breath, lactose intolerance, glutton intolerance, hormone imbalances, ADD, heartburn, migraines, infertility, impotence, autoimmune disorders IBS, ulcers, urinary tract infections and a slew of other problems.
The yogurt diet is all about replenishing your body with the healthy bacteria, and removing toxins that are harming it, thus bringing your body back to optimal health. Yogurt has all the healthy probiotics you could ever want and Luque states you should eat it three times a day for this diet.
Things I like about this diet are that Luque has a lot of scientific evidence to back up her theories, and when she doesn’t have the evidence, she states it in her book. She also isn’t pushing bars or shakes or making you count calories, carbs or fats. I felt like this book was written with the hope of informing people of how beneficial it is to bring balance to the microbiological part of your body, instead of making big money, like some diets. The whole diet has natural food that you can buy over the counter, and you don’t have to spend and arm and a leg.
Things I don’t like about the diet is that you have to give up a lot of food: sugar, corn, corn syrup, wheat, soda, coffee and even tea. I’m like, eeeek! That’s a lot to give up. Yet it’s only temporary. You just want to cleanse your body and replenish the flora in your gut. Loque says once that happens your metabolism will speed up and you’ll start to feel better. Then you’ll be able to start adding some of these items back into your diet.
I’m thinking of trying this. I’ll post my results if I do. I don’t really need to lose weight. Yes it would be nice, but I’m already at my proper BMI. I would like to know how to maintain my weight though, without worrying and panicking about every little item I eat. I feel like I’m hungry all the time, which gets old. I don’t want to have to give up meat, wheat, sugar or dairy for the rest of my life either to maintain that weight. This looks like it might be the answer.
Anyway, why did I knock a star? One of the main reasons is because I would have liked more information about what to do after you are done with the yogurt diet. I don't think Luque went into enough detail.
